The old cliché that has a lot to answer for if anything is tasty it must be fattening. Take every list of favourite foods and there’s no chance that much would be bad stuff for us. We naturally crave things that are not the right choice for us on balance – they ‘re unhealthy, lack nutrients and sometimes don’t even fill our stomachs very much – so for whatever cause we keep coming again. What DO we like food which is bad for us?
There is no denying that food has a certain appeal which isn’t especially good. There is not always that charm in the way the food tastes. Often it’s a convenience-because you ‘re in a sports game Chances are that the snack choices do not contain a nutritious casserole, but include burgers, hot dogs and a range of other items which do not do a lot of good to the waistline. Often it can be anything as easy as the way a meal tastes – meet someone who doesn’t like the scent of fried onions and you might have just discovered life outside.
We only crave the unhealthy food as often as not, because it is simple. We ‘re used to it, we don’t have to sit down to enjoy it or even pair it with the right side dish. It is simple, and good taste. What we need to do is get to the point where we find a healthy option that is just as trouble-free as possible. The safest choice in this situation for certain people is a sandwich – just as long as there isn’t so much butter on it, anyway!
